Eric Brewer, EPA

Eric is a cyclist with 30 years of riding experience which includes road, mountain, cyclo-cross racing and some overseas bicycle touring (France, Netherlands, Kenya, Tanzania). He has 10 years of experience organizing DC based cycling events (Tweed Ride, Seersucker social). He co-founded the Bluemont Connection gravel touring club and cyclocross race team. As a professional, Eric has 25+ years of experience running records and data management projects with the US Environment Protection Agency as a government contractor. He has 3 years of experience mentoring underserved youth. He’s a native of the DC area and has been a resident of the district for the past 20 years. Within the next two years, Eric envisions increased community engagement for DC youth through Gearin’ Up activities, including bicycle maintenance workshops and confidence-building cycling based activities.

Laurie Cooper, African Governance and DC Peace Team

Laurie is an international development specialist focusing on democracy, good governance practice and conflict resolution in sub-Saharan Africa.  She has trained election workers, civil society activists and election observers in over a dozen countries during the past 30 years, and served as an international election observer during many of the continent’s first multiparty contests under new constitutions. She also trains local dispute resolution practitioners in post-conflict environments. As a long-term resident of Washington, D.C., Laurie believes that Gearin’ Up is an essential pathway to positive participation in community life.
