We are seeking a Program Coordinator for the upcoming 2021 season! Please submit a resume and cover letter to info@gearinupbicycles. Cover letters can be addressed to Julie Meyer, our Interim Executive Director. Applications accepted until the position is filled.
Gearin’ Up Bicycles is a nonprofit bicycle shop in the Eckington neighborhood of Washington, DC, just off the Metropolitan Branch Trail. The mission of Gearin’ Up is to create career development opportunities and teach essential workplace skills to youth from under-served communities, while encouraging cycling as a practical, healthy means of transportation. Gearin’ Up provides access to quality, affordable, used bicycles for those in need and hosts various community outreach programs throughout the year.
Gearin’ Up seeks to hire a Program Coordinator to re-boot its educational and community programming following a year of pandemic restrictions and leadership change. Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Program Coordinator will plan and implement workshops and pop-up clinics to teach bicycle maintenance, repairs and safety. The PC will assist the PD in developing partnerships with high schools, city agencies, libraries, recreation centers and other community groups in underserved areas of the District for purposes of hosting workshops and clinics. The program coordinator will also work to re-initiate on-site programming at the shop, as covid permits, such as youth “build-your-own-bicycle” trainings, and will work to engage volunteers in all programs. All activities will focus on BIPOC youth communities in Washington, DC.
The Program Coordinator must bring a passion for Gearin’ Up’s mission and for working with youth. Two-three years’ proven bicycle mechanic experience is a must, with comfort working on older as well as new bicycles. Some retail experience and good customer service are desired. Strong ability to work with youth and volunteers is required, including good communication skills and teaching methods. Experience managing a detailed work plan, with multiple programs in play, and ability to generate reports is essential. Experience with Lightspeed is a plus.
Salary range: $37,000-$40,000 with benefits, depending on experience.
Interested applicants should send a resume and cover letter to: email@example.com with the subject line “Program Coordinator position.” We seek to fill this position as soon as possible.
